As we approach the new year, it’s impossible not to reflect on how the last few months have been a whirlwind of activity. Establishing the Active with MS Foundation, organizing logistics for the Run Across America, and navigating the hustle and bustle of the holiday season have consumed much of our time. Understandably, these commitments have made it challenging to stay consistent with blog updates—something I am determined to turn around soon.
Betsy and I are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us, whether by donating their time, resources, or encouragement toward the Run Across America and the Active with MS Foundation. The support we’ve received so far has been inspiring. It’s humbling to know that this journey is bigger than just us; it’s a collaboration of countless individuals coming together. I truly believe that by the time the run is completed, we’ll all be amazed by the positive impact this initiative has had. Betsy’s message of perseverance and inspiration has already reached so many. She frequently receives texts and messages from friends and family sharing how her dedication to training has inspired them to face their own challenges—whether it’s tackling a tough workout or simply lacing up their running shoes and getting out the door. She loves receiving these messages.
We are just over 2 months out from the start date of March 10th 2025!! March is MS awareness month which will give the start even more significance. There is a lot that we would like to accomplish yet, this blog is morphing into a call to action of sorts.
I have published a rough idea of where Betsy will be during her run in a table format on the "My Route" page of the website. There are 6 of the 13 weeks that we don't have support crew assigned yet. We are looking for friends and/or family who would be interested in taking some time to come along and support the run. It is set up in week long sessions but any amount of support would be appreciated.
What this looks like:
We can have 1-2 additional people stay with us in the RV. They will be primarily responsible for shuttling Betsy to the start point of her run (in a vehicle we will provide) and then staying out there during the morning session to provide hydration, nutrition, moral support every 5 miles or so. They will likely bring her back to the RV for a mid day break and then out again in the afternoon to support her afternoon run. Schedules can flex and nothing is set in stone but it would be expected to be fulfilling the role of supporting Betsy during her running. Food will be provided.
Please let us know if you would be willing to take time to fulfill a position on the support Crew.
Other possible support options:
We are also looking for people who might be interested in reaching out to News outlets along the route as well as running clubs and MS groups. Our friend Diane has started to take on some of this work already. If you think you would be interested in helping and spending some time e-mailing on Betsy's behalf let us know. We have some scripted documents and can create a sheet so we can easily keep track of progress centrally.
Betsy has appeared on a number of podcasts, these can be found on the "Media" tab of the run website. We are very grateful to Diane for setting these up and also very grateful to the podcast hosts for their insightful conversations with Betsy about her run.
Betsy continues to add on the miles. Next week has her looking at completing 3 "double run" days, each consisting of 7-8 hours per day of running.
Until next time.....
